Dog harness size chart

Every brand prints its own chart, so one universal table does not exist. This is how to read the one in front of you, plus a cm to inch table so you stop converting by hand.

How to read a chart in three moves

  1. Find the chest column. Ignore the letter for now.
  2. Find the row whose range contains your dog's chest number.
  3. Look at the next row up. If your number sits in the top fifth of the range, that is the one to think about.

A letter alone is meaningless. A "Large" from a small-dog brand can be smaller than a "Medium" from a big-dog brand.

Take two minutes with a soft tape. The harness measuring guide has pictures. Puppies: the puppy weight calculator estimates the chest now and when grown.

Questions

Is there one harness size chart that works for every brand?

No. Brands cut harnesses differently, so a Medium from one maker is not a Medium from another. Use the chest range printed on the chart you are buying from.

Chest range says 20 to 26 inches and my dog is 26.

You are at the top edge. Two things help: how adjustable the harness is, and how much your dog may still grow. If either is a worry, take the next size up and tighten.

Chart lists weight but not chest. What now?

Weight-only charts are rough. Measure the chest anyway and ask the seller or check reviews for dogs your size.
